2008 School News

Dr. Blondean Y. Davis

Dr. Blondean Y. Davis, Superintendent of Matteson Elementary School District 162, has been named the 2008 Illinois Superintendent of the Year. The award is sponsored by the Illinois Association of School Administrators.

Dr. Davis was selected from among more than 800 Illinois superintendents. Dr. Davis credits her success to working with a dedicated staff, supportive parents and a Board of Education with a vision.

Dr. Davis was appointed superintendent of District 162 in 2002. She took over a district that had experienced rapid increases in enrollment and significant demographic changes. In 2007, District 162 schools were ranked among the top 10 school districts in the south suburban area of Chicago, based on performance on the 2007 ISAT. Arcadia School students achieved a 97.6% on the spring ISAT. Illinois Elementary posted 93.9%.

We congratulate Dr. Davis  and her district on the recognition of their accomplishment.

Mr. Maceo Rainey

Maceo Rainey was named principal of Rich Central High School as of February 1, 2008, at the January meeting of the Board of Education for District 227. Rainey has served as associate principal of Rich Central High School since last July. He has a master’s degree in educational leadership from Governors State University and is working on his doctorate at Lewis University. Rainey received a standing ovation upon announcement of the confirmation of his contract.

Dave Mekarski, Village Administrator for Olympia Fields, spoke for the Village and the Education Commission when he congratulated the Superintendent and the Board for hiring  Maceo Rainey, a person who understands the “principles of educational science.” Mekarski went on, “He knows the success of this district is to take these students and turn them into leaders, and that’s a really unique trait.”

We congratulate Mr. Rainey on his new position and pledge our support to all his efforts toward improvement.
